Jeykll setting

Stevenson presents jekyll as desperate by using language that makes him appear ghostly.in the text Stevenson says “there sat dr jekyll ,looking deadly sick”. Stevenson uses this adverb deadly to show he’s very sick because he is desperate.

Stevenson presents jekyll as desperate by using descriptions of the setting to build tension in the text it says “looking out upon the court by three dusty window barred with iron”. Stevenson says this because it shows jekyll is trapped in a unclean room which is unusual for dr jekyll this show some thing is troubling him.

Stevenson presents jekyll as desperate by using repetition in the text dr jeykll says “utterson,i swear to god; cried the doctor,i swear to god i will never set eyes on him again”. This shows he feels bad about seeing the the letter because he is starting to think hyde done it so he doesn’t want to go see him.

Stevenson presents jekyll as desperate by describing his reaction in the text stevenson says “they were crying in the square. Stevenson uses alliteration to describe utterson’s disturbed reaction to jekyll’s behaviour because utterson is a reasonable man. The aback he is by his friends attitude.

PEa

Stevenson uses metaphors within utterson’s language in order to communicate to the reader that some that he had done in the past have come back to bite him.
An Example of this is when utterson says “ay it must be that; the ghost of some old sin”
This metaphor suggests that jekyll’s past behaviour was very bad
The word ghost suggest that someone might have died .
